The Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies and helps members of the military and their families in times of crisis. This is done through the simple, yet powerful, process of one person putting their need aside to help another.

In order to celebrate this spirit of humanitarianism, the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross hosts an event that honors individuals who have shown courage, dedication and unselfish character by their acts of heroism in our community.

An award is given to recipient(s) in twelve categories. (Please note that two or more people may function as a team during a particular event, so it is possible to have more than one Hero recipient per category). To qualify, the heroic event must be ongoing or have occurred between April 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007. the Hero must live, work or go to school in the counties of Jasper, Newton, or Barton. Nominations may be made for both living and posthumous Heroes. A Selection Committee comprised of community leaders will select the winners.

Simply click on the Community Services link above for more information - or to complete a nomination form. Nomination forms must be completed in full and must be received by October 15, 2007 to be considered.

Tsunami Update

Thanks to your contribution, more than 1.5 million tsunami victims--among them, orphans, widows, mothers...infants and school children,...the elderly and the disabled-- are getting help. They're getting food they need to survive. They're getting tents, kithchen sets, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, and sleeping mats. And they are getting new hospitals, health clinics, and schools to replace the ones destoyed by the waves.

Again, thank you for supporting the American Red Cross tsunami relief efforts. We invite you to visit our web site for updates about how we are spending the dollars you and more than a million other Americans so generously contributed... vital support that will make the tsunami survivors' long term recovery possible.

You have already given generously but we want to ask you if you'll make another contribution to the Red Cross--not for tsunami relief, but to ensure that we can be there for the next emergency. It could be a fire or a hurricane. It could devistate you and your family, your friends, and your community. Or it could affect families half way around the world.

Hundreds of families turn to the American Red Cross everyday for emergency relief, emotional support, and other vital Red Cross services that they desperately need.

Whatever you can give-- will help guarantee that our promise of support is a reality for all who need it around the world.

Thank you for your generousity and your compassion.
